Backporting is the task of taking a bugfix from the latest version of an upstream software package and applying that fix to an older version of the same software. It is part of the preservation step in the application development process, and is sometimes used to add new features to older versions of software.

The YubiHSM 2 FIPS is a Cryptographic Hardware Security Module used primarily for generating, protecting and storing cryptographic keys. Since we at EuroLinux utilize HSMs (Hardware Security Modules), we decided to create an article being a practical example of using YubiHSM 2 FIPS in Linux systems.

Although EuroLinux 8 is not directly affected by this vulnerability, we have introduced a mechanism to mitigate the Log4Shell vulnerability that works with applications using Log4j.
