EuroIQ is a platform used to manage cloud, virtualization and containerization, i.e. hybrid IT resources. It facilitates the administration of both very large and small environments by combining many different technologies in a single cockpit and offering management of resource allocation and access assignments.

Centralization of many technological layers and presenting dependencies and detailed information about each of the elements of the IT inventory is here combined into one powerful tool with the functions of monitoring, reporting and optimization of IT resources. EuroIQ creates a new layer in the technological stack, offering a friendly browser interface that replaces the more or less intuitive interfaces of managers responsible for individual service layers or orchestration. Thus, EuroIQ includes: virtualization platforms, private clouds, public clouds, containers as well as software-defined network technologies. EuroIQ as a platform for hybrid IT centralization offers many specific applications. The most important of them are listed below:

Designation of EuroIQ

  • managing the entire infrastructure from one place
  • easy creation and reduction of virtual machines
  • possible migration of virtual machines between different technologies
  • implementation and enforcement of compliance (including security policy)
  • self-service implementation for end users
  • support for automation(Ansible®).

EuroIQ features

  • automatic detection of new instances
  • monitoring the utilization of resources
  • resource optimization (including size recommendations)
  • reporting and notification mechanisms (including prediction)
  • cost reports (also for end customers)
  • historical analysis.

As cloud and container infrastructure grows, the idea of managing it from one central graphic console becomes more than just an administrator's whim. It turns into a real need of high priority. EuroIQ is an embodiment of both.

The EuroIQ principle of operation

EuroIQ communicates with the APIs of managers responsible for smaller areas of activity (e.g. for containers, the role of the manager is performed by Kubernetes® or OpenShift®, which in the EuroIQ nomenclature are called their ‘providers’). Therefore, a more precise term for EuroIQ is the ‘manager of managers’.

For each configured provider, EuroIQ will continuously detect inventory changes. The type of inventory depends on the vendor, for example in the case of VMware® vSphere it will be virtual machines, hypervisors and other essential elements. The tool will also discover relationships between items, such as the fact that the virtual machine runs on a hypervisor and listens for events. Certain events that indicate a change in the environment will cause the inventory to be fully or partially refreshed. The end result is a mirror image of resources that are almost instantly updated against the original vendor-managed resources.

EuroIQ can (once configured) capture, store and report various metrics such as CPU, memory, disk space and network usage in the supported inventory of virtual machines and host machines (hypervisors). The captured information about the managed environment is stored in the EuroIQ database.

A EuroIQ instance can be used on its own or as part of a three-tier federation architecture. In the latter case, the administrator can configure zones, regions, and a single super-region. Devices can be assigned to a specific zone or region and configured with specific roles so that work is coordinated with the region. Most roles are multi-master and distribute the work automatically through a queue. Some roles (such as a database) are single.
